When it comes to percussion, there's a name you can't get past: Pete Lockett. The British musician has been on stage and in the studio with countless artists and is known for his wide range of different styles. He is one of the leading experts when it is about traditional percussion. His repertoire includes Carnatic or Hindustani music from India, playing the Tabla, Kanjira, Ghatam or the Taiko drum from Japan and other traditional instruments of Arabic, Latin-American, African, Indian or Asian origin. Blues, Funk, Rock, Classic, Folk, Ethno, Electronic - there is hardly a genre in which Pete does not work as a drummer, percussionist, composer, arranger, studio, live and film musician.
In 1963 he was born into a largely unmusical family in Portsmouth/UK. Compared to other musicians, he discovered drumming relatively late at the age of 19, when he spontaneously took a drum lesson in a drum shop. A short time later Pete decided on his musical career, moved to London and came into contact with traditional Indian music, which aroused his interest. His proverbial musical journey around the world began and up till now he has been on stage with Björk, Amy Winehouse, the Pet Shop Boys and Peter Gabriel, amongst many others. He musically worked on Hollywood films such as "City of Angels", "The Bone Collector" and "Moulin Rouge" and teaches percussion music at the Royal College, the Royal Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music in London.
In three years in a row, Pete was named "Best World percussionist" by DRUM! Mag USA and additionally "Percussionist of the year" in 2015. He has published several albums and books, hundreds of articles in various drum magazines worldwide and continues to tour as a solo musician, ensemble percussionist and teacher.
